During this course, you will perform the tasks of an attorney handling an appellate case. The case is United States v. Utter, and the materials constituting the record on appeal were given to you by your instructor.
You will identify the legal issues involved, research those issues, prepare an appellate brief to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and present oral argument before that court.
The goal of this work is to help you refine the legal research, analysis, writing, and advocacy skills you learned as a first-year law student and to familiarize you with federal appellate procedural law.
The purpose of this guide is to support your research efforts. If you need additional help, please contact any of the research librarians.
