Study Aids
Study aids are a great way to further improve your legal knowledge and prepare for exams. The Law Library maintains a strong collection of study aids. Current study aids are located on the same shelves as the Course Reserves to the immediate left in Room 243 and are marked "Study Aids and Supplements." Room 243 is behind and to the right of the Law Library's Information Service Desk. Please ask staff at the Information Service Desk for access to the room.
Current Criminal Law study aids begin at call letter KF9219.85. Older editions are located in the Open Reserves (also in Room 243) or in the main Law Library stacks under the same call letters.
A few Criminal Law study aids available include:
If you are unable to locate a specific study aid, you may wish to purchase it directly from Amazon or the Campus Bookstore.
Past Exams
A very valuable study tool is to practice on past exams written by your professor. No all professors, however, make their previous exams available.
Past exams made available by professors can be found on Emery (2004 to the present). Professors will also make their past exams available on their Camino course page, so check there as well. Again, if you are unable to locate past exams for your professor it is most likely that he/she has not made them available.
Course Reserves
Often, professors put course materials on reserve in the Law Library for your review. Course Reserves is located on the shelves to the immediate left in Room 243 and is marked 'Course Reserves.' Room 243 is behind and to the right of the Law Library's Information Service Desk. Please ask staff at the Information Service Desk for access to the room.
Your professor will usually tell you if he/she has put materials on reserve for your class. The author, title, and/or call number will often be listed on your syllabus. If not, you can search for reserve materials on OSCAR by your professor's name or the course name. Additionally, materials on reserve are grouped by course name. Once located, you may check out the reserve material. Professors who put materials on reserve generally specify how long it can be checked out for, usually two hours at a time.
Open Reserves
Open Reserves is located on the shelves to the immediate right in the same room (243) This collection holds heavily used materials that you can check out for only 24 hours. Again, please ask staff at the Information Service Desk for access to the room.
